9x27x20 Mountain Animals have always intrigued me. Sheep, goats, ibex, all of them. Maybe it’s because I love the mountains. When ibex get up after a short nap it’s often followed with a stretch. The Altai, Gobi, mid-Asian etc with their long, sweeping horns are very dramatic when they do.
8x15x15 I think the Bezoar from Turkey are the most striking of all Ibex. Like all the others, they are extremely agile, bouncing from rock to rock on the cliffs they live in.
21x15x16 There are five subspecies of Kudu. This work is of an East African Kudu. Caught in the open he is making a run for cover.
17x19x14 Bison, we all want to call them buffalo, love to roll, dig and cavort in banks of clay or in sand pits called wallows. The wallows were prevalent across the prairies before man came along and almost eliminated the buffalo, fenced the plains and put an end to migration. Bulls wallow the most though cows do some as well. The bulls grunt and bellow with anticipation as they dig up the dirt with their horns or get down on their knees before getting on their sides to roll.
9x13x12 Often called the "Grey Ghost of Africa" Kudu do seem to ebb in and out of the bush effortlessly and silently, like a mirage.
14x12x12 This male and female have paired up for awhile. All bushbuck are beautiful but the harness bush bucks’ markings on the male are exceptionally so.
6x12x12 During the rut, Javan Rusa deer will twist up the long grass with their antlers, rip it up and wear it on top of their heads like a crown. Then they strut around proudly showing it off to the ladies.
9x11x10.75 While in Ghana, we came upon a farmer that had picked up a brand new baby Royal Antelope. It was nearly dead, but with an eye dropper for a bottle and a lot of care the little guy made it, and in a few days was running around the hut. It fit in the palm of my hand. The sculpture that I did of it is three times life size and only 10 inches tall. Looking back I should have done it only life size. That would have been more effective in showing how small they really are.
